Tonight I am flying back to England for Christmas and I really can’t wait to be home. I know that the airport is going to be manic and that there will be people on the plane arguing over their carry on bags which are the same size as a small country but I don’t care. I’m going home for Christmas and I get to see my family after 7 long months and that is all that matters.
I miss yule logs, Boxing Day, Christmas crackers and the bizarre festive football schedule. I don’t miss mince pies though, they can fuck off. I miss Christmas markets and random people selling mistletoe in the streets and Christmas specials of TV shows that they stopped making years ago. I even miss looking out of the window in the forlorn hope that it will stop raining for long enough to get a decent walk in.
Needless to say it is forecast to rain for most of my trip but as that doesn’t interfere with me slouching on the sofa and eating chocolate biscuits I don’t care. After last winter in Boston the last thing that I want to see is any bloody snow! I’m hoping to spend some time out in my hometown though and show my wife some of my favourite local places. More than anything though I’m hoping to spend some time with my family.
What are you doing over the festive period? Happy holidays to all of my readers! 🙂
