The Golden Circle!

Yesterday we drove the Golden Circle which is Iceland’s most popular tourist route and I fell into a lake! The route consists of Pingvellir National Park, Geysir, Gulfoss waterfall and a number of smaller stop offs. It was the first sunny day we have had here meaning I got to see Iceland with a blue sky for the first time. I hope you like the photos!

Gulfoss waterfall with a beautiful rainbow!

The Strokkur geyser erupts every 8-10 minutes
There is lots of geothermal activity at Geysir
The water in this lake was so clear that I fell into it by accident!
Pingvellir National Park
Kerid is the crater of an extinct volcano
Hveragerdi has hissing vents and bubbling mud pools dotting the landscape

First photo is MAGNIFICENT! But…….we need to get your wife quicker on the draw with the camera…the one of you in a lake would’ve been a hoot! 🙂

    1. Haha yeah that would’ve been embarrassing! I was lucky in that I was wearing hiking trousers (pants) so could turn them into shorts after although I got some strange looks as it was cold! My boots are still soaked haha.

    1. So there were some metal stairs leading into the lake (so scuba divers can get out) and the water was so clear I didn’t see it went right upto the top and just walked straight in! Oops!
