Now I know that Brits don’t celebrate Thanksgiving but as I happen to live in the US now I do end up celebrating it and also enjoying a rare day off. I would like to take the opportunity to wish all of my blogging friends a happy Thanksgiving and I hope that you have something to be thankful for. 2016 has been a bad year for so many reasons (from Bowie to Brexit to Trump) but I am trying to think of the good things. Something that made me smile yesterday was reading about a waiter in Texas who was tipped $750 for a flight ticket home to Ireland when he told the people he was serving he missed seeing his family at home at Christmas. As someone who also lives on the other side of the Atlantic reading this gave me the feels and I hope it does for you too!
Last week I was actually in Plymouth, MA where the Pilgrims first landed (after they had landed on Cape Cod that is) and I walked past Plymouth Rock. It is probably the most underwhelming tourist site you will ever visit, a small rock in the sand surrounded by bars to stop people from chipping pieces off like they used to do but it’s the symbolism of the location that’s important I guess. I find it hard to get into the Thanksgiving mood when I read about what is happening at Standing Rock, ND. If you are concerned as I am you can find good ways to help here.
I only have 5000 words to do until I win NaNoWriMo so I’ll spare you any more of my ‘wisdom’ and get back to writing my novel. What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year?
Interestinggg! Thanks for sharing🙂
Movie and pizza. As another Brit we’ve made up our own thanksgiving tradition. 🙂
That sounds like a pretty good tradition and probably what I’d do with the day off if we didn’t visit my wife’s family! Hope you had a good one 🙂
Is that the real rock? I figured it would be underwater by now.
As far as I know! It does end up underwater in the highest tides.
I hope you enjoy today Tom 🙂
Thanks Matt! Used the day off to win NaNoWriMo!
Haha, well done. I’ve one chapter left to do for Salmonweird and then it’s finished. Will probably do that tomorrow 🙂
Good work, Matt! 🙂
Like you say Tom, no “Thanksgiving” here in the UK, but I trust you enjoyed your day off!
Thanks Dookes, I did indeed! 🙂
