This year I’m spending Christmas in the US and as I’ve only had one festive period when I’ve not gone home to the UK since I moved here I’ve been thinking a lot about how I’m going to make my holidays as British as possible. Let’s be honest that’s the best way to not be homesick, probably (it might have the opposite effect). I thought that I’d share some of the tips that I’ve thought of with you. Continue reading “How to Have a British Christmas in America”
This weekend I went to Newport, Rhode Island, home to the famous Gilded Age mansions overlooking the sea. The mansions get decorated for Christmas every year and it’s a major tourist attraction. I took a tour of The Breakers, the opulent summer house of the Vanderbilt family and the biggest mansion of them all. Continue reading “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous”
The leaves fell slowly all around me, drifting and swirling like sylvan snowflakes in the gentle breeze. I was surrounded by yellows, oranges and reds and beneath me was a multicoloured carpet that crunched satisfyingly underfoot. Continue reading “Autumn!”
I couldn’t sleep last night and, as often happens when I can’t sleep, I ended up reading a huge succession of random web pages. Continue reading “Why Brits Live Longer Than Americans and Other Stories”
Hello readers! I realised this evening that I hadn’t posted in forever and with NaNoWriMo coming up in just a few weeks I need to get back into the habit of writing because I’m going to have a lot of writing to do.
It’s been a pretty warm weekend here with temperatures here currently 32C (90F) and showing no signs of cooling down. I’ve been out and about by the coast to try and keep cool and have shared some of the photos below. Continue reading “Warm Weekend”
Returning back to the US this weekend I discovered among the piles of junk mail that I actually had some good news; the Removal of Conditions (ROC) on my green card had been approved! Continue reading “10 Year Green Card!”
In the past two weeks I have been back to England, had a city break in Edinburgh and returned home to the US. Its been an eventful few weeks with a grand total of 5 flights! I thought I’d share some of the photos with you now that I actually have some time to sit down. Continue reading “Exploring!”
I’m back in my hometown and wanted to share some photos with you all and wish you a happy Friday! I hope you at least some of you are as silly as I am and enjoy the final photo.
I’m back in home in England for a couple of weeks so thought I’d finally post something after a long gap. I’ve been terrible at posting recently but I’m going to try and get back into it. I didn’t want to just post for the sake of it, you know? I do miss writing though so am going to make a big effort.
I had a red-eye flight and I can’t sleep on flights so my body clock is a bit messed up at the moment. They say even a broken clock is right twice a day but my body clock isn’t! Anyway here’s a couple of pictures from a walk I went on after getting home yesterday. It’s so green.
