The Golden Circle!
Yesterday we drove the Golden Circle which is Iceland’s most popular tourist route and I fell into a lake! The route consists of Pingvellir National Park, Geysir, Gulfoss waterfall and a number of smaller stop offs. It was the first sunny day we have had here meaning I got to see Iceland with a blue sky for the first time. I hope you like the photos!

Iceland Photo Special
For the past four days we have been roaming Iceland in our little rental car, driving long deserted stretches of road between mountains and lava fields. Continue reading “Iceland Photo Special”
More Iceland!
Today we drove south of Reykjavik and explored some geothermal areas on the Reyjkanes Peninsula. It rained incessantly (if a British person thinks it is wet then boy it is wet) but we were dressed for the weather and it didn’t bother us. We saw some tourists sit in their tour bus and not leave and it made me feel sorry for them, why sit mournfully watching the rain when you could be seeing volcanoes?!
We drove on empty roads through lava fields and with sharp turns around volcanic features. The geothermal area at Seltun was fascinating with bubbling mud pools, steaming hot springs and beautiful mineral colours. We discovered a lake in a volcanic fissure with black sand beaches and winds strong enough to shake the car. Iceland is such a beautiful country!
